Recycled Silk Items

Bright and cheerful, our fairly traded hand spun silk yarn scarves, hats, purses and other items are made by a women's collective group in Nepal.

A significant portion of our retail prices goes to the women directly and or goes to support assistance programs including educational grants to the weavers children.  Called "rungy chungy" by our ladies, which translates as colorful, the yarn that is used to create these amazing pieces is homespun, allowing the ladies to go about their daily chores and watch the children.

Recycled Silk yarn is crafted from remnants and scraps of contemporarily-produced Indian saris, this colorful yarn is 100% silk and silk remnants and makes vibrantly hued scarves, hats, mittens and other items! 

Scraps left over from the making of Silk Indian Saris are separated, hand teased, then hand spun on a drop spindle or charka into amazing arrays of colors by a women's cooperative made up of Tibetan refugees, Nepalese and Indian women.
